Gateway Church was originally known as Belmont Assemblies of God and was an outreach from Glad Tidings Tabernacle (now City Church Brisbane). This outreach commenced over 60 years ago as a Sunday School and soon grew to become a local church. Three acres of land was purchased where the original church was built. A new church auditorium was built in the 1980s to house the growing congregation and future growth of the church.

The church is currently in the process of gaining council approval to construct a much larger facility to meet the demand of current and future growth. The church has had a number of pastors over the years with Pastors Chris and Beverley Aiton as the current Senior Pastors of Gateway Church since 2002.
